Call of the Wild Wolf

The fire is flickering in the hearth
The day’s drawn in, it’s near nightfall
A sudden scuffle on the path
That’s when you hear the wild wolf’s call

The moon has not yet set to wane
A muffled footstep in the hall
A tap upon a spattered pane
That’s when you hear the wild wolf’s call

The book lies open on your lap
Your eyes are fixed upon the wall
You’ve woken from a stolen nap
That’s when you hear the wild wolf’s call

Yellow eyes lapped by the firelight
Ears prick up, you’re stretching tall
A smile is glinting in the night
And echoes of the wild wolf’s call
