Just A Minute
Give me a minute, she says
So I offer her a leaf of my life
A minute slice, a minute
The most insignificant of moments
But also the most significant
The purest, the most precious gift
Because this moment, this minute
Is all I have to give
I could have…
Read a poem
Had a blether
Checked the time
Watched the weather
Made a coffee
Grabbed a bite
Kissed someone
Seen a sight
Looked at my e-mail
Blown a balloon
Shaken a hand
Whistled a tune
Called my daughter
Done a crossword
Stroked the dog
Said something absurd
But no…
I choose to give you a minute
Beating millions to this moment
And hope you treat it well
For it’s the only one I have
