Sometimes

Sometimes I’m the runner,
Sometimes I’m the run-down.

Sometimes I’m the snapper,
Sometimes I’m the poor clown.

Sometimes I’m the writer,
Sometimes I’m the written.

Sometimes I’m the biter,
Sometimes I’m the bitten.

Sometimes I’m the poet,
Sometimes I’m pathetic.

Sometimes on my better days,
I think I’m half prophetic.

Sometimes I’m a minor god,
And sometimes I’m a sot.

Sometimes I think I’ve seen the light,
Sometimes, not.

Oftentimes I’ll capture a moment,
Oftentimes it captures me.

Sometimes I’ll resolve an elusive enigma,
Often though, it isn’t to be.

Sometimes in my blindness I see the light,
Sometimes with my ears I hear nothing at all.

Sometimes I can write till the cows come home,
Sometimes I remember that god-sots can fall.
