She’s Sleeping
She’s sleeping
And I tiptoe in
A raptor from another time
I touch her chest echoing mine
She’s lost in dreams of dragons fine
I keep the beast at bay
She’s laughing
And I swing her high
Her puppet man, her jumping jack
Her hide and seek, her farmyard quack
Her breaking down, her dad in black
I didn’t write the play
She’s crying
And I’m swooping down
Hands clown around her little face
My nose is running red disgrace
Sad painted tears are out of place
I share her pain each day
She’s sleeping
And I tiptoe out
An ogre with a pumpkin heart
The naughty one who stole the tart
Held carrot fingers oh-so hard
I slowly creep away
