Cat In

Lonely café, that’s your temple.
Sink a beer and wonder why.

Other guys have got the icing;
Your is just to do and die.

Get the shopping, get the cat in,
Seventeen alleys to show

That every day, in every way
You’ve lost out, and you just don’t know.

Hang your head and sigh my friend;
Check the paving straight ahead.

Nothing there but lines my friend,
Cracks in concrete, miles of thread,

Meant to trick you, sent to snigger,
Smother life another day;

Think she’s playing games, my friend,
Gotta be a better way.

Read the headlines, check the dustbins,
Gonna hit the heights tonight;

What you thought would be forever
Ends in one more drunken fight.
