Mystic Rhythms Poetry

~ A lifetime of lines in search of something resembling sublime… ~

Writing lines came pretty naturally to me, perhaps having had plenty of practice during my school days when I would diligently compose my first legendary texts on the theme of “I must not talk in class” or “I must do my homework” to the tune of 100 iterations. Those were the days. Those were the days. Those were the days that were…

Those days are long gone now, but the literary leech stuck its suckers in and grew. I haven’t counted yet, but I’m guessing I’m approaching 500 poetic “works” of one sort or another, which is quite… something.

France and poetry have always been intimately linked for me, and with music as my constant personal Cosmic Background Radiation, it was on a lonely, rain-swept beach in the south of France, before I even moved here in 1993, that the poetry bug really bit, listening to the Eurythmics’ I’ve Got An Angel on a weary, sand-battered Walkman. Those poems can be found in the Pre-1993 section in the Mystic Rhythms Poetry Archives

Poetry’s a funny thing. Whilst not being a particularly macho guy, and with a knowing nod to the magnificent Dead Poets Society, my lyrical leanings have never been a hindrance in affairs of the heart. That said, a large percentage of my poetic output has been the result of a recourse to the one thing that held me together in times of extreme emotional upheaval. It’s a shady beast indeed…

These days I’m consolidating my work, combining Paris street photos and prose, paintings and poetry, philosophy and fun, and even music, although I leave it to others to contribute the latter. I’m pleased to offer to you here my most profound, primitive and occasionally polished creative efforts. My hope is that they will touch another soul at the deepest level, be that a tear, a smile or a sigh. My works are never finished when I launch them into the ether; true completion only occurs when they’ve landed on new ground; when they’ve reached a new destination, unknown at the moment of takeoff. Thank you for being receptive to whatever this is.
